Exploring Oklahoma History
Come along with us as we explore the beautiful state of Oklahoma! We’re excited to celebrate the stories of those who paved the way for us and to learn about the lessons of our rich history together.
I think it's time we explore Oklahoma's history again.
Our family has always loved stopping to read the historical markers along the highway. There is just so much to learn and see in our home state of Oklahoma. So, we started a website in 2005 to catalog and share these historic places. Exploring Oklahoma History is an ongoing project to share Oklahoma's rich history. You can visit our catalog of Oklahoma historic places at blogoklahoma.us/places.
Last year, I unfortunately had to put some of my side projects on hold. This included some much-needed upgrades to the Exploring Oklahoma History website and my "About Oklahoma" series in the Blog Oklahoma Newsletter.
We'll I'm in a position now to restart my work on it. Yay! So, to get things going again, I'm starting a second newsletter here on Substack called, but what else, Exploring Oklahoma History. With this new newsletter, I'll share some fascinating tidbits of Oklahoma history, highlight the many historical markers and places, and share general facts about the state I call home.
If you've been a long-time reader of the Blog Oklahoma Newsletter or listener of the Blog Oklahoma Podcast, you'll likely see a few repeats. I'm going to dive back into my 77-county series, providing a little history and facts about every county in Oklahoma. I'll also share some of my Oklahoma history episodes of the Blog Oklahoma Podcast.
I hope you enjoy learning Oklahoma's history as much as I do.
More later. Time to explore.

I peeked at the Exploring website and got a nice bonus. The historic place of the day is the Cushing-Drumright oil field. I'm distantly related to Aaron Drumright. Unfortunately his money didn't gush into our side of the family. He didn't stick around the town he founded; he moved up to Kansas and switched to cattle ranching near Parsons.
